Finding quality time to spend outdoors with your kids can be a challenge in today’s fast-paced world. Between busy work schedules and endless digital distractions, it’s hard to carve out moments for meaningful family adventures. That’s why West Virginia’s National Hunting and Fishing Day at Stonewall Resort on September 21 is the perfect opportunity to relax and enjoy the outdoors with your kids. In this blog, we’ll explore the exciting things awaiting you at National Hunting and Fishing Day, including the kid-friendly outdoor activities, delicious food sampling and a variety of family-friendly events. Let’s get into it!

Outdoor Youth Challenge

The Outdoor Youth Challenge is one of the main events at National Hunting and Fishing Day and for good reason. It’s fun and exciting, a fantastic way for families to bond and helps kids gain confidence in their hunting, fishing and outdoor skills through a series of activities that not only entertain but also educate.

During the outdoor youth challenge, kids will be able to identify trees, fish and wildlife, learn how to field dress a deer and squirrel, practice their casting techniques, test their aim at the shooting range and so much more. These experiences create a sense of achievement that will encourage a love of outdoors activities that can be enjoyed together as a family for years to come.

Every kid who participates will also get a chance to win exciting prizes, such as conservation camp scholarships and a lifetime hunting and fishing license.

A Taste of West Virginia State Parks

After working up an appetite at the outdoor youth challenge, you’ll want to head on over to A Taste of West Virginia State Parks in the Roanoke building between 1 and 4 p.m. and sample signature dishes prepared by top chefs from various state parks. Not only is this event a delicious way to celebrate the beauty and diversity of West Virginia’s state parks, it’s a wonderful opportunity to share a unique culinary experience with your kids and create lasting memories of trying new things together.

Participating parks include:

Outdoor Activities The Entire Family Can Enjoy

From 12–2 p.m., kids can participate in a fishing derby for a chance to win a free fishing pole. Each kid who reels in their first fish will also receive a First Catch Certificate.

And adding to the excitement, outdoor television personalities from The Chase, Fly Rod Chronicles and Whitetail Frenzy will make special guest appearances and sign autographs throughout the day.
