Applications Available for 2007 Limited Permit Areas Having Antlerless Deer Seasons

Applications for the 2007 Antlerless Deer Season are now available at all West Virginia hunting and fishing license agents, Division of Natural Resources (DNR) District Offices, Elkins Operations Center and Charleston Headquarters, according to Curtis I. Taylor, Chief of the DNR’s Wildlife Resources Section. These applications may also be downloaded from the DNR’s web page at These limited permit areas provide antlerless deer hunting opportunities in counties or areas of the state where wildlife biologists have determined that limited numbers of antlerless deer permits are necessary to meet management objectives.

Five counties or parts thereof, including Braxton, Fayette (North and East of New River and East of Gauley River), Grant (West of top of New Creek and North Fork Mountains), Pendleton (West of the North Fork of South Branch River) and Tucker and eight Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) will have a limited number of Class N licenses for resident antlerless deer hunting from November 19 through December 1 and December 26 through December 29 on private land only, and December 3 through 8 on public and private land. Applications must be received by the DNR before the close of business on August 24, 2007. The 2007 limited resident antlerless deer season will provide an opportunity for 1,200 residents to participate on the eight WMAs. An additional 739 residents will be selected to hunt antlerless deer in the five counties or portions thereof that are restricted to resident hunters.

For complete information on antlerless deer season dates and bag limits, consult the 2007-2008 Hunting and Trapping Regulations Summary, which is available at West Virginia hunting and fishing license agents, DNR offices and online at
