News Release: May 6, 2021

GLEN JEAN, W.VA. – Gov. Jim Justice announced today that West Virginia’s National Hunting and Fishing Days is returning Sept. 10-12. This year, the event will take place at Summit Bechtel Reserve, where the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources is joining GNCC Racing and Summit Events for a one-of-a-kind, three-day outdoor Adventure On Freedom Festival that will kick off the Reserve’s “Adventure On” series.

West Virginia’s celebration of National Hunting and Fishing Days, which is the largest hunting and fishing expo in the state, features big buck and trophy fish displays, hunting and fishing vendors and family-friendly activities.

“As someone who’s been hunting and fishing all my life and loves the outdoors, I’m telling you that this incredible event is truly something to celebrate. For years, National Hunting and Fishing Days has welcomed all kinds of people to learn about our outdoor traditions and enjoy our state’s abundant natural resources and outdoor recreation opportunities,” Gov. Justice said. “This year, National Hunting and Fishing Days is going to be bigger and better than ever as we join the Summit Bechtel Reserve to offer the most unique adventure festival in the country.”

In addition to the National Hunting and Fishing Days celebration, the festival will feature a free concert on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021 – the 20th anniversary of the September 11th attacks – and fireworks display for first responders, active and retired military and law enforcement officers, hunting and fishing vendors, and opportunities for guests to enjoy ziplining, canopy tours, the third largest shooting sports range in the country, the second largest outdoor skate park and more than 70 miles of bike and ATV trails.

“We’re looking forward to bringing National Hunting and Fishing Days to the Summit this year and how this partnership will allow us to showcase all of the incredible outdoor activities West Virginia has to offer,” said West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Director Stephen McDaniel. “An event like this is good for West Virginia and hunters and anglers alike. Not only will it introduce folks to the Summit, but it will help our agency’s R3 efforts to recruit, retain and reactivate hunters, anglers, and outdoor participants.”

During the event, guests will be able to learn about new hunting and fishing products and receive training in hunter safety, boating and other outdoor skills. Exhibitors at the event will include Benelli, Remington, Polaris, Savage Arms, Specialized, Cabela’s/Bass Pro, the National Wild Turkey Federation, the National Park Service, Friends of the NRA, West Virginia University, and more.
