Directions: Five miles south of Huntington, the area can be accessed from the west via state Route 152 and from the northeast via state Route 10 and Hughes Branch Road.
Size: 7,531 acres
Terrain: Steep with over 85% of the area covered by oak-hickory-pine forest

District 5 – Mingo County
Directions: To access the west side of Big South, take Route 119 to Route 65 South to Delbarton. Take Rock House Fork (65/5) to Ragland. To access the east, take Route 44 south to Route 52 west. There are several access points on the north side of Route 52.
Size: 4,971 acres
Terrain: Moderate to steep hills. Much of the area has been strip mined and reclaimed.

65. Bright McCausland Homestead

Directions: Take Route 817 (old Route 35) 3.5 miles south of Point Pleasant. The WMA is adjacent to the McCausland State Farm.

Terrain: Varies from 80 acres of river bottom cropland to rolling hills covered with hardwood timber.

66. Chief Cornstalk

Directions: Accessible by Nine-Mile Road traveling westward from U.S. Route 35 near Southside, can also be reached from state Route 2, five miles south of Gallipolis Ferry by turning onto Crab Creek Road leading east to Arlee and then onto the area.
Size: 11,916 acres
Terrain: Gently rolling hills to moderately steep slopes, area is approximately 85% covered by hardwood forest

Directions: Northeast of Lenore off state Route 65.

Terrain: Steep slopes with narrow ridges and valleys covered with mixed hardwood forest, numerous hemlocks and a thick understory. Forty percent reclaimed surface mine with shrubs and grass openings.

74. Tomblin
District 5 – Logan County
Directions: 4.5 miles southwest of Logan and 25 miles north of WIlliamson on U.S. Route 119 to Gaston Caperton Road (119/96). Drive 1.5 miles to the Southwestern Regional Jail. A temporary office is adjacent to the jail. The area can also be accessed through Holden, W.Va. along Copperas Fork Road.
Size: 25,001 acres
Terrain: 60% of the area is comprised of steep slopes and narrow valleys of mature hardwood forest while 40% is reclaimed surface mine area supporting a mixture of open grasses and early successional shrubs.
Hunting Opportunities
Hunting Prospects: deer (archery only), bear, turkey, squirrel, grouse, rabbit. Tomblin is the site of the first elk stocking. Elk hunting is currently prohibited statewide.
Furbearers: bobcat, coyote, foxes, opossum, raccoon
NOTE: Portions of Tomblin WMA may be temporarily closed during certain times due to activities associated with mining and wetland mitigation construction projects.
