SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.VA. — As part of a statewide review and survey of public shooting ranges, the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources will temporarily close the Plum Orchard Lake and Montgomery shooting ranges in Fayette County.

The Plum Orchard Lake shooting range will be closed Oct. 12 and the Montgomery shooting range will be closed Oct. 13. The closures are expected to last one day.

“This review of our shooting ranges is one of the ways the WVDNR is improving the outdoor experience for all sports enthusiasts in West Virginia,” said Gary Foster, assistant chief of game management for the WVDNR. “While a temporary range closure is an inconvenience, it will help us identify and address needs and concerns at shooting ranges so we can improve the facilities and create a better experience for shooters across the state.”

The WVDNR expects the statewide review to last a few months. Additional range closures will be announced in advance. Closures will be posted at each facility and at the closest WVDNR district office. Whenever possible, closures will be combined with previously scheduled range down time.

Range shooters should contact their local WVDNR district office before going to a range to make sure there are not scheduled closings.
