The WVDNR is seeking original paintings of native wildlife species for next year’s edition of the state’s award-winning West Virginia Wildlife Calendar.
Whether you’ve already painted something you’re proud of or feel inspired to start a new piece, this is your chance to share your work with thousands of wildlife and art enthusiasts across West Virginia.
Artists whose work is selected receive:
- $200 for each painting selected for publication
- $500 if your painting is selected for the cover

Submission Guidelines
Paintings sent for consideration must be original color paintings on canvas or another flat surface and depict native game and fish species or other wildlife found in West Virginia, such as snakes, frogs, turtles, salamanders, bats, songbirds, small mammals and nongame fish. Photographs and paintings with wildlife not found in West Virginia will not be considered. Paintings depicting hunting or fishing activities may be submitted.
The calendar is horizontal and 14.5 inches by 11.5 inches. Paintings will be chosen based on overall composition, quality and anatomical and contextual accuracy.
The submission due date is Feb. 12, 2026 if you want your painting to be considered for the 2027 West Virginia Wildlife Calendar. Artists may send multiple paintings and artwork not chosen in previous years may be resubmitted.
